Story Shifters theatre arts residencies were specifically designed for students with medical, physical, and neurological impairments, including students on the autism spectrum and students with special needs.
The goal of the program is to build literacy, fluency, and comprehension through drama and social interaction. Now in our sixth year, Story Shifters is continuing to grow and serve all students in a variety of settings. All programs are now available in inclusive classroom settings via the Waltham Park & Recreation department. |
Shifting ShakespeareStudents will be exploring the world of Shakespeare through touch, movement, music and text. Each student will be paired with a Shadow Actor that will guide him/her through the art making process. The result is a celebratory sharing of their work for family and friends.

Song ShiftersThis residency works off of the original Story Shifters curriculum of adaptation. Students create original musicals based on a collection of music selected by the group. Students
thread the themes of each song from different genres into a culminating presentation. |
Play ShiftersThis program is for our youngest play-makers. Each visit is its own play making experience. Children create a unique story through the use of guided dramatic play. Costumes, bubbles, props, and music are part of the day of fun!
